I loved the article. It gave me a better understanding of how artists decide on what to create, and a little bit about the thought process that goes behind it. I learned that it often takes many ideas to come up with a final decision, and that even the final decision can be tweaked and built upon. The Jennifer Bartlett example did a great job of explaining the concept of "Big Ideas" and how far you can go with an idea. It's amazing to me that she was able to create 200 works of art through one view. Although there seems to be no set order to the artworks, she clearly had set rules/guidelines that she followed during the creative process.
Although the article explains the differences between subject matter, themes, and "Big ideas," I still find it a little confusing. Their meanings all seem to overlap a little bit. I think that doing real life examples of each of the different meanings would help out a bit. That was pretty much the only part of the article that I found to be a little confusing. Other than that, it was well written and gave great examples.
